What knee replacement is

A total knee replacement removes the damaged surfaces of the knee joint. The surgeon replaces them with metal and plastic parts.

The most common reason is knee osteoarthritis. Surgeons in orthopedic surgery perform it.

A planned replacement of the other knee is a separate first surgery. It is not a repeat surgery.

What public records measure for knee replacement

One row for each measure a source publishes. A new row appears when OpenHealth reads a new source.

  1. 1
    Who was measured

Each result names who was measured: a doctor, a group, a hospital or a program. A hospital result is never shown as a doctor's result.

  2. 2
    When it was measured

Each result names its period. Many results are one to three years old when they are published.

  3. 3
    Experience, in context

Case counts show experience. A higher count does not prove better results.

Compare the same measure. OpenHealth does not combine results into one score. Two numbers sit side by side only when the measure, the period and the level match.

Questions

Does OpenHealth say who the best surgeon is?

No. OpenHealth shows each published result with its period and source. It does not combine them into one score or rank doctors.

Why do some doctors have no outcome?

Doctors choose which measures to report to CMS. CMS also hides a rate when a doctor had too few cases. No result does not mean poor care.

Does this page show which doctors take my insurance?

No. Public quality files do not say which plans a doctor takes. Call the office to ask.

Sources and methods

Every value on this page comes from one of these public files. OpenHealth reads them again each night. A missing result is not a zero, and no page combines results into one score.
