Procedure guides
Read what each operation involves, which public records can help and what to ask at a consultation.
The procedure directory lists cities with published physician records. Each city page links to the original source for its evidence.
Start with the procedure and city
- Find the exact operation your clinician recommends.
- Read the measure definition and the population behind it.
- Bring your questions to the surgical team.
Read the record before comparing results
Public reports measure different procedures and different patient groups. Compare the same measure, period and entity level. Missing data does not mean poor care.

Knee functionCMS reports the percentage meeting a knee-function target 9–15 months after a first total knee replacement.Missing timely assessments count as not meeting the target. The result is not adjusted for patient risk. CMS stars apply only to this measure.
Procedure experienceCMS counts procedures for Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients.Counts describe experience. They do not measure treatment success. Counts from 1–10 remain a range.
